2014-03-03 ... WHAT A WEEK!

So sorry that I've been so bad about sending this email out!!  I will huigai (hway guy meaning repent)

This week has been so so great!  Wow a ton has happened!  We had Stake Conference last week and I sang in the choir iwth my companion!  Bishop Stevenson, the church's presiding Bishop, came to speak!  His son is serving here in Taizhong and we came on the plane together!  He had a seperate fireside with just the missionaries and I GOT TO SEE SISTER FINLAYSON!!  :):)

Then we got to do something really really cool and went to welcome the new missionaries to the island!  Yes I am no longer the newest here!!  (I wasn't newest for long because Sister Finlayson came a day after the rest of us so she's technically been the newest ;))  BUT EVEN COOLER was the Sister Finlayson came back up to do Orientation.  Because she was late she missed it .. which meant she stayed in our apartment!!  AND I GOT TO BE COMPANIONS WITH SISTER HAUPT!!  Sister Haupt was my roomate in Startalk the first year!!!!!!!  Way fun :)  We went to dinner at the TOILET RESTAURANT with Sylvia our recent convert!  All the food came in a toilet bowl/bath tub/sink.  Pretty funny.  Then I orded the chocolate ice cream which came as one big swirl in a squatty potty hahaha

THEN WE WENT TO DAN JONES!  The new missionaries got up and bore their testimonies and the APs picked those of us missionaries in the crowd to grab them and go contact!  THEY ASKED ME TO TAKE A NEW MISSIONARY AROUND!!!  I went with Sister Swan who had never learned Chinese before and she did SO WELL!!!  She has more phrases memorized than I DO!  We had such a miracle right at the end too, we went up to 2 friends and placed a Book of Mormon and got this lady's number.  She was super interested in why 2 waiguoren (why goo-oh wren meaning foreigners) would leave home to come to Taiwan!

And I got my new bike!  But because there were 3 of us still (Sister Graham, Sister Haupt and I) I kept riding Elder Erikison's (a ELDER'S BIKE MEANING HIGH BAR MEANING I HAD TO WEAR LOONG LOONG SKIRTS)  But it was all good, the longer and more flowy the skirt the better :)

Then after Sister Finlayson and Sister Haupt went back to the south :( :(  We got another companion!!  Sister Parkinson!  Her companion was training a new missionary, so Sister Parkinson came to serve with us in BeiQu!  She really has been like a miracle.  I learned so much from her, I really missher .. she left today!

OH AND SYLVIA IS GETTING READY TO GO TO THE TEMPLE THIS SATURDAY WITH OUR WARD TO DO BAPTISMS!  We are so excited for her!

We had an amazing baptism this Saturday, Wang BoXun who is 10 got baptized!  A previously less active member's son got baptized!!  It was so cool because her husband came to see his son get baptized!  We are starting lessons with him soon ;)

SO MUCH GOOD HAPPENING HERE!!

I am starting my 2nd transfer here in BeiQu (movecall was today .. and no surprise I'm staying! usually trainees stay with their trainer for 2 and in the same area.  apparently it is also normal for me to stay for next movecall too because i will be kicking Sister Graham out and getting a new Senior Companion!)

ANYWAY

I LOVE YOU ALL BUNCHES AND BUNCHES!
THE CHURCH IS TRUE!!
Love for always,

This note was sent to "mom" and "dad" ...

ON TUESDAY PRESIDENT AND SISTER BLICKENSTAFF WILL BE IN HONG KONG!

So find them :)

I have been so blessed to serve in the area of the Mission Home and Office. They have participated in lessons with me and have given me so much advise.  I really have been so blessed to have been assigned to such an amazing couple.  I really know that if nothing else, I NEEED to be in Taizhong for them.  They are just a perfect fit for me and I totally encourage you to seek them out.  But don't be creepy ;)

I figure they will try to find you anyway .. but if not then you do your part for sure!!  Maybe feed them or something I don't know.  But I know it would really make them happy to know that YOU appreciate THEM :)
I love you both.  They do a pretty good job, but NO ONE EVER will ever be able to compare to the growth and love I have been so blessed with from you.  I am really eternally greateful for Mommy giving birth to my sorry carcass, and Daddy for spoiling me silly.  I love you both to Kolob and back.

You are my rocks.  I'd like to think I'm a pretty wise woman for building my house on such good rocks ;)  And yes Mommy I know you love geolelolololgy so yes that's me tryign to be funny .. rocks ... haha

I love you extremly.  I wish you could see what I'm doing and meet these people!  I know someday you will.  I love them.  They have become a part of our family.  Xu XinYi is an Less Active who is comign back so strong and bringing her nonmember family with her.  Sylvia is our Recent Convert who is a superstar, she handed out copieos of the Book of Mormon with us and will do it again tonight at DANJONES.  I am sure there will be more names to add to this list like the people from Ogden: Kenzie West, Kristopher MacDonald, and Keilani.

2014-02-17 ... Power Power Week

AND A BAPTISM! SYLVIA GOT BAPTIZED!! She is so cute!  The water was super cold, we filled it up with warm water but by the time the service started it was way cold.  So Elder Erikson got it, but we were in the restroom praying and we prayed it wouldn't be too cold.  She said she didn't feel it at all.  She felt super warm and so much peace.  On Sunday she told us she couldn't sleep the night before becasue she was so excited to recieve the gift of the Holy Ghost to always be with her!  She also said she wanted to come with us to the temple (today) and wants to serve a mission!!  SO she is like totalyl solid and ready for this gospel!!  We met with her yesterday and she came out with us to hand out copies of theBook of Mormon!!

Why hand out Books of Mormon???

Because it's POWER WEEK!  Here usually after CNY the mission holds a Power Week, where each day we have mini goals to achieve.  Monday was tract for 2 hours straight and sit down with 2 families.  Tuesday was hand out 13 copies of the Book of Mormon. And we acheived both goals in spirit haha.  We tracted into 2 families that wouldn't let us in, 1 had a super bad fever (he had a mask on and everything .. looked super sick too but we gave him a copy of the BOok of Mormon and he said he was chrisitan and wanted more so WOOHOO) and the othr showed us that his house was super messy but invited us to come back later this week!  And yesterday we gave out 11 copies of the Book of Mormon and 2 people already had one but we got all their numbers ... see?  I think it counts ;)

Wow this keyboard is really bad sorry!!

I went to a baibai funeral this week.  Haha it was very interesting.  We were invited by an invesitagor to a friend's grandma's funeral.  We sand I am a CHild of God, then bowed to her gigantic picture, and bowed tothe women then to the men.  We left beforeall the chanting and clanging and hat wearing happened.  But it was cool.  Oh and we call through our referrals everyday, and a couple of days ago we saw a funeral just on the road.  Like a busy road too.  It was like a parade, thn it all stopped.  At the front there was a woman marching band, giant people, people with painted faces, and dancers, and the herse.  They started 2 fires in the street, 1 in front of and behind the car.  Not in a bin just on the road.  Then the dancers danced around it and stabbed it and stuff.  It was interesting for sure!!

We also had interviews with our Mission President this week!  HE IS AMAZING! I AM SO GLAD I'M HERE!!!  I heard someon in the MTC say, "When they pray about where you go they prayu abotu the people and place for sure, but they mostly pray about which Mission President can best suit you." AND IT IS TRUE!!

Ugh I'm out of time again!!

BUT I LOVE YOU ALL! THIS GOSPEL AND CHURCH ARE TRUE!!!!  OUR HEAVENLY FATHER LOVES US!!!

For always,

Sister King
Juju Jimmie!!

2014-02-10 ... I'm Out of Time!!

DANG IT!!

I have 0 time left!!!  I really tried to plan better!!

This week has been amazing!  We have an investigator that is getting baptized this week!  She is so golden!  She is the only person religiously inclined in her family.  Here everyone is baibai (byebye meaning Buddhist that prays to ancestors for help .. Mulan??) and her family doesn't really approve but she knows Heavenly Father will help her get through!!

I PASSED OFF PHASE 1 LESSON 1!!  Which I don't think I've talked about yet .. Phase 1 is a book to help new missionaries become familiar with the lessons in Chinese!  It is super fangbian (fong bee-N meaning convenient).  After Phase 1 is PHASE 2 which is a red box of like 500 words (?) to help you expand your vocab and talk to real people.  Phase 3 is the blue box (?) that has most common Chinese characters (from Book of Mormon and other common characters) Anyway YAY PHASE 1 LESSON 1!!  It was so much easier than I thought.  I taught the 1st lesson to my Sister Training Leader, Sister Jian and we talked about how I could do better.  Super chill.  I still had to study though!  These next 2 weeks I am going to be working on the Plan of Salvation vocab!!

We had a crazy crazy day Thursday.  We had 1 family change their lesson from Saturday to 3 30 and we had a lesson set for 4 so we figured we would just have a quick lesson with them and it would be fine!  Nope, they came late, and the other girl came early!!  AND BEFORE THE OTHER GIRL SHOWED UP ANOTHER PERSON CAME!!!  She had fang-ed (fong meaning stood us up) twice and then showed up at the Church!!  So we were like super overwhelmed with people who wanted to hear the true gospel of Christ!  Which is a good thing!!  It was crazy, because right after that I went to pass off Phase 1!

I am so sorry!  I love you all so much!  I love this Gospel because I know from it we can find true happiness and feel our Heavenly Father's love for us!!

Mosiah 7:33

2014-02-03 It Has Begun ... Chinese New Year!

WOW.  So everything I thought I had been prepared for, is nothing.  Haha I have been eating SO MUCH THIS WEEK!

Normally in our mission missionaries aren't asked over to anyone's house, because it is dirty or small or whatever the reason.  But during Chinese New Year that goes away.  Everyone asks us!  Thankfully I haven't had double meals .. but the week isn't over yet so it could happen!  After every meal I have been tryign to write WHAT I ate (if I knew what it was haha) and HOW much I ate.  We started to be qing-ed (ching meaning Chinglish invited over) on Wednesday.  There were 6 plates of food there.  Then on Thursday was THE DAY, basically New Year's Eve.  We ate for lunch, 3 big scoops of spaghetti with some crazy mushrooms, loads of snap peas with carrots and crab, scooops of veggies with something that looked like vegetarian fake meat maybe tofu, lots of squid, real fish sticks, bowl of taro and coconut milk soup, spicy bacon with bocai and a big bowl of rice.  Then for dinner we had (all cold) a massive plate of eggs with onion (no one else was eating it and everyone looked at me so I ate it all) 15 dumplings, fake meat, huge pieces of turnip, more snap peas and carrots, 2 shrimp, bowl of rice, and more bocai!  THAT IS ONE DAY!

Friday we were qing-ed to McDonalds for Lunch hahaha but we still ate more than you normally would because he bought 2 big things of chicken wings.  For Dinner we ate loads.  We went to the home of the 1st Counselor to the Mission, and all of their food was SUPER SPICY!  I still had 2 dumplings, a bunch of pork (and all their meat they love to keep the fat on) anyway you get the idea.  Loads of food everyday, every meal.  But just to make sure, some of the weirdest things I've eaten have been: pig knee (loads of jelly not much meat), octopus tentacle, super spicy sausage, baby shrimp/maggots I'm not sure I didn't want to ask.  My stomach is huge.  Thank goodness we have to bike everywhere and go running every other morning!!

But the food hasn't been the best part of the week for sure.  We have had some really amazing miracles!

So no one wants to meet during this last, and upcoming week because it is family time.  Which is the best time for us!  But it is too buhao yisi (boo-hao yee-seh meaning literally not too good meaning, not a good idea)  Anyway so we have been struggling trying to figure out what we should do.  I am in charge of our Area Books, which are actual binders rather than on the iPad </3 but I love them because you can flip through and see progress and why (if the missionaries put it in there)  Anyway I was flipping through and 3 Former Investigators stuck out to me.  We visited them the next day and MIRACLES!  They all where home, and wanted to meet again!  Most of them were from 2004/2007 time period.  One didn't even have info, it was just a family.  The family we went to see first, and they weren't home .. initially.  So we started to write a note, messed up and had to start again.  Before we finished the second note, they came home!  Weren't ready for us to meet with them then, but said we could call them for after guonian (guuu-oh knee-an meaning passing year aka New Year)!!!  THAT WAS SO GREAT!  Since then we have been trying to find at least 1 former each day!

We have a free English class every week here in Taizhong and it is very successful!  This last week we met a new girl who is just the bomb!!  Her English is very good and she is studying to be an English teacher here in Taiwan.  We met her once, had a first lesson where we did How To Begin Teaching and invited her to Church.  SHE CAME!  AND BROUGHT A FRIEND!!!  So excited for her!

We are NOT supposed to get home before 9 but before 9:30 which this last week we have seen MIRACLES WITH!  We usually bike home and could go home just 5 minutes early but like Saturday night we see amazing things happen if we don't.  So yea we had like 5 minutes before we could be home and start planning and getting ready for bed etc etc but we stayed out.  We were almost home but we turned down the road and went to a busy intersection.  We pulled up and started talking to people, Sister Graham got a phone number on her first one, the person I talked to pretended not to hear me and pull forward and away haha.  So I pulled up behind her and waited for us to move to the next intersection, but as I did another person pulled up and starting talking TO ME!  We got his number too!  We didn't have to really do anything but these people came to us!!  When we obey exactly He bless us :)

No surprise Chinese is HARD.  I have been really struggling feeling like I can do it.  Which is lame because I have been learning right?  No.  Teaching the gospel is completely different!  Anyway I kind of just cried and cried one day.  And kept saying I don't know what I should do, what do I do??  And I turned to where I had been reading in the Book of Mormon, 2 Nephi 32.  And miracle.  It was perfect.  It was saying, STOP WORRYING.  He will give it to you, He will support you, He will make what needs to happen, happen.  2 Nephi 32:4-9

4 Wherefore, now after I have spoken these words, if ye cannot understand them it will be because ye aask not, neither do ye knock; wherefore, ye are not brought into the light, but must perish in the dark.

5 For behold, again I say unto you that if ye will enter in by the way, and receive the Holy Ghost, it will ashow unto you all things what ye should do.

6 Behold, this is the doctrine of Christ, and there will be no more doctrine given until after he shall amanifest himself unto you in the flesh. And when he shall manifest himself unto you in the flesh, the things which he shall say unto you shall ye observe to do.

7 And now I, Nephi, cannot say more; the Spirit stoppeth mine utterance, and I am left to mourn because of the aunbelief, and the wickedness, and the ignorance, and the bstiffneckedness of men; for they will cnot search dknowledge, nor understand great knowledge, when it is given unto them in eplainness, even as plain as word can be.

8 And now, my beloved brethren, I perceive that ye ponder still in your hearts; and it grieveth me that I must speak concerning this thing. For if ye would hearken unto the aSpirit which teacheth a man to bpray, ye would know that ye must cpray; for the devil spirit teacheth not a man to pray, but teacheth him that he must not pray.

9 But behold, I say unto you that ye must apray always, and not faint; that ye must not perform any thing unto the Lord save in the first place ye shall bpray unto the Father in the cname of Christ, that he will dconsecrate thy performance unto thee, that thy performance may be for the ewelfare of thy soul.

Then the even cooler thing happened.  We met with one of our STELLAR less actives.  She went on a mission, but has been in active to 10 years.  She saw the missionaries on the road and wanted to slowly start.  Now she is strong and coming back and bringing her kids with her, and her son is being baptized THIS WEEK!  Her husband met with us this last time for the first time too so super great and excited for her!  We had a really emotional lesson, she was really struggling with her faith and talked about these SAME VERSES that touched my heart.  And we just hugged and supported each other and showed her what she did have faith in, and made sure to tell her it starts slow, with tiny seeds like Alma says :)  Anyway perfect lesson, I know I am in Beiqu to be with her.  No doubt in my mind!!

I have really been trying to work out in my mind how I can give myself to the Lord while I am here.  How I can fully give of myself to the people in Taiwan.  I am still trying to figure that out, so any tips would be welcome!!  But I do know that I am going at it and talking with as many people as I can find!  Bearing quick and simple testimony!  A member we ate with said he saw us at the lights talking with people and it made him happy, he also suggest that we try singing a line of a hymn!!!!  I haven't used it yet, but we will!

I have been learning so much, I never realized how many scriptures are about missionary work!!  Woah!  I am marking up my scriptures with the green for missionary work like craazy!  I am also in the process of making a box for my flimsy missionary Book of Mormon triple column, because it just slides and gets all crinckled with out one!  So I am trying to piece one together with my Oreo box! haha

I am loving the weather!  All you really need is a light jacket and you are good to go!  I don't know how to describe how much we bike here, but I would estimate it's at least 20 miles each day :)  A good workout that's for sure!!  There is this one road, Dalu here in Taizhong that is just DEATH.  It is so long, and has a slight incline which I think is worse than like super high and there are so many intersections that you COULD stop at, but it's a green light so you push and keep going till Heavenly Father sees you can't go anymore and gives you a red :)

I love you all!!

Especially my wonderful mommy who gave birth to my sorry carcass!  It will be her birthday this next week and I love her so much!

2014-02-03 Sister Abby's Dan Jones Experience

Abby sent us a link to this beautiful video of the new missionaries facing fear and taking on the challenge on their second night in Taiwan!

You may want to watch the clock, as from 07:23-07:33, you will see a young woman bearing her soul.  And then a still picture at 07:56-07:57.

We are SO proud of dear Abby!

2014-01-27 A Week Full of QIJI

QIJI pronounced like chee(se) gee(z) haha
it means miracles!

Yes this week has been amazing!  AND CHINESE NEW YEAR STARTS!!  So this is a good/bad thing.  Everyone goes home, but unfortunatly for us a lot of the people we are teaching are younger so home is .. not in our mission/zone/area.  So we are planning on knocking on lots of doors, eating LOADS OF FOOD and meeting families.  We are going to try to plan for time to call people on the phone and have lessons (?) but it will be good.  We will make this time a busy time ;)

Our ward has already set up a schedule for LUNCH AND DINNER. Which means if anyone wants to invite us over we eat 2 lunches or 2 dinners.  Missionaries have been telling me stories of days they've had 2 lunches then went to 2 dinners right after!  Arrg.  I'm praying for my tummy to expand!  Also, they feed us either suuper American meals or suuper Chinese.  So that will be interesting to go from KFC to pig feet!!  I am way excited to be in a Chinese New Year!  Doing traditional things and eating traditional food.  So far, all the food I've eaten here has been weird but phenomenal!!

Friday was just full of amazing miracles.  We got a phone call from an investigator that has been worried about her family disagreeing with her being baptized so she has been slowly not meeting.  But she called, and said I want to follow Jesus Christ and be baptized.  I know he will help me.  She had been talking with another recent convert whose parents don't agree but the recent convert shared her testimony and then our investigator felt like that's what she needed to do!!  SO GOOD!

Then a less active started bringing her kids to lessons and we invited her son (10 years old) to be baptized and he said, "Okay, can we do it now?"  SO GREAT!  He is so cute, and has read the Book of Mormon without letting his mom know.  She's a returned missinoary and I just love their lessons because she helps us teach.  It is giving her the chance to build her testimony again!  It is amazing to see their family change.  Next step is to get the husband ready!  Their daughter is 7, but she said she wants to be baptized too!

OH AND THE WANG FAMILY!  We found them when we went to a less active who sells flowers.  The only reason she's considered less active is cause she never comes to church.  Well okay that's less active, but her TESTIMONY IS AMAZING.  And she is a such a good missionary haha!  Everytime we visit her she invites her customers and friends to meet with us and bears her testimony :)  That's how we found the Wang Family. We had breakfast with them after we met them and they have such good questions!  We were just going to to How to Being Teaching, but they were so interested we taught the 1st lesson!!

Anyway Friday.  We got that call, then we went to go see the less active.  And got 2 people's numbers that would like to meet with us to hear about the gospel!!  At every red light we split and talk to the women on motorcycles (if it's just a guy we have to talk to them with both of us!) and hand out things with scriptures and pictures on them.  They are really useful, but no one ever gives us their number!!!  SO COOL!

The week started off really slow, and we kept praying for us to be able to do the work.  And Friday and Saturday were CRAZY BUSY!  I just love how awesome Heavenly Father is in answering the small prayers.  One night we were biking up a long long road and I was just exhausted and my legs hurt.  I realized though that when I needed it most, there was a red light :)  Another night we hadn't gotten a chance to eat dinner yet and a less active kept giving us food!!  It really is the tiny tiny things that prove to me that He loves me and knows the desires (and worried) of my heart!

It is exciting for me to be here at such an awesome time!  Markets are full of so many people buying food for the New Year.  Everyone is changing, they have said to me, "It's the New Year I want to be a better person."  Such a great opprotunity to show people that we have the best way to do that ;) through baptism!!

Sometimes when lessons fall through we call through our APR (no clue what it stands for but what it means is the people we teach haha) or we do something called "Corners" and its what it sounds like!  We go up to a light, talk to people, then when the light changes we turn to right and go to that light and talk with the people waiting at that light.  Then move on!  We keep passing out those papers .. I will take a pic today and send it to you next week :)

Sorry this week is pretty short but I have just lost track of time!!

I love you all so much!!

1 Nephi 20:10

10 For, behold, I have refined thee, I have chosen thee in the furnace of aaffliction.

D&C 84:81-84

81 Therefore, take ye no athought for the morrow, for what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink, or wherewithal ye shall be clothed.

82 For, aconsider the blilies of the field, how they grow, they toil not, neither do they spin; and the kingdoms of the world, in all their glory, are not arrayed like one of these.

83 For your aFather, who is in heaven, bknoweth that you have need of all these things.

84 Therefore, let the morrow take athought for the things of itself.

2014-01-20 I MADE IT ALIVE!!

So Pday is Monday now :)  Loads and loads has happened!  The plane ride was soo long, but I used my 21 hours well and placed 1 Book of Mormon in Chinese and handed out 1 Restoration pamphelt and planted countless seeds talking to people about the church!  Mission accomplished!

Fun fact: The Mission didn't know we were coming.  (OH yea by we I mean the District I initially entered the MTC with plus the Elders from my last Zone so like 14ish people)  We arrived in Taiwan.  With no one there to pick us up.  We waited about 2 hours, contacting people the whole time.  I dragged the Sisters to do it and encouraged the Elders too, it was actually pretty comfortable since I had already done it in Logan :)  Anyways after I was chosen as tribute to find someone to let us use their phone.  So we went to the Info desk and they paged for anyone from the "last days church", no one came.  So we called the Mission Home.  HAHAHAHA President Day (of the Taipei) mission came to get us.  We got to temple patron housing around 1 am and there was a random lady in our room haha not awkward AT ALL.

In the morning we did Personal Study not knowing what was happening and then Sister Blickenstaff and the APs came to the building!! We went to the temple :) Which is blue. Surpirse! Anyway loved it!

We then had a 3 hour bus ride to Taizhong and met President Blickenstaff and then we got into Orientation and food and what not :)  So much happened and then we finally went to Brother and Sister Darrington's home to sleep.  We woke up the next morning and ran to a track and did a mile run (i died) then ran home.  We had more Orientation and learned about the 'mission culture' which includes: Baptize, Pray with Faith, Set goals make plans and hit goals!, 100% obedience, and TALK WITH EVERYONE!  Daily when we wait for lights we are talkign to people on motorcycles, and we have done 1 car contact!!!

Anyway yes we did the Dan Jones Experience and it was terrifying!!  I got on a box, with a Book of Mormon in my hand and shouted out my testimony.  As soon as I was done a Sister came and grabbed me and we ran around talking with people and getting their numbers.  We talked to probably 15 people and got 7 numbers that said they wouldlike to meet!!  AND I PLACED THAT BOOK OF MORMON! :)

The next day we got up and did stairs at the same stadium. The Sisters were late and only did 4 sets of stairs, but they were still killer.  Then we did 80 Buddah Claps, which are like jumping jacks but just with your arms.  Ouch did that hurt!!!  I dare you to try.

THEN I MET MY TRAINER!  They had us all sit and do personal study downstairs then we came up into the chapel and a Sister grabbed me.  We did alittle more Orienting (haha so much Orienting in the Orient to which I am pretty much already Oriented hahahaha)  The Sister that grabbed me ended up being my Trainer :) Sister Graham is so great!! She's from Texas and we are both blonde.  Which I think is a little crazy but way fun for all the people we talk to!!!!  Her Chinese is so good/.

Ph yea my Chinese is barely enough to get by!!  I am depending so much on prayer right now!

We have been so busy!  Traffic here is CRAZY!  There are more motorcycles than anything. or maybe that's all I notice because they are around us on bikes all the time!  Um .. I know there is more I need to say about this amazing place but I'm drawing a blank!!

The food is really yummy!  We have had noodles and so many dumplings!  It feels like I have never had Chinese food, because this food is so much better tasting!!!!!  Chinese New Year is coming and I am scared.  Missionaries are scared.  We eat so much that time of year.  We are asked to come over EVERY MEAL AND THEY FEED US LIKE WE WILL NEVER SEE FOOD AGAIN.  I think it's a culture thing, the more food they make you the more money they have.  AND YOU HAVE TO EAT IT ALL.  Leaving anything behind is RUDE.  So I am basically going to explode during CNY.  That plus they eat weird weird food too.  Oh well.  I love it!

My investigator from Logan got baptized Saturday!!  I asked President Blickenstaff if it would be okay to call her and he said yes!  She didn't pick up but I left a message :)  She's the best I loveher so much!!  My companions said her mom (a less active) CRIED so good sign?  I think so!

Yesterday in sacrament they asked me to bear my testimony and it was such broken Chinese!  But I did it :)  Then one of the speakers talked about how much faith someone must have to not speak the language but to have the desire to share the gospel.  How we must all become like little children in God's sight.  How we are blessed in this time to have the technology to spead the gospel, but meiyouyong (it has no use) because no one does.  He said something along the lines of, if this missionary can come not knowing Chinese and speak to the people of Taiwan you can use the computer.

I am reading through the Book of Mormon and learning so much.  I never realized how pretty much everyone in them are missionaries.  It is so cool to see things they use in teaching, in Preach My Gospel!  Oh and speaking of, here there is a 3 phase program to help everyone learn Chinese.  Phase 1 is passing off the vocab and phrases from PMG, Phase 2 is everydayu vocabulary and phase 3 is learning characters.  I learned Chinese backwards from that haha.  But I am staryting from the beginning.  Everyone loves the phases and says it really does help your Chinese so I am exctied to be starting!  It was made my missionaries in our mission so we are the only ones in theworld with it and it seems to be working!!  Other missions have asked for it :)  and we share of course!  I am praying everyday that I can speak the words I need to beable to that day.  And that is FOR SURE HELPING!

I am happy to report I have only 4 mosquito bites so far!  Success!

We have seen miracles everyday!  Sunday a less active came and brought her kids who are both not members yet but they loved church!  Then we have been meeting GOLDEN people here at lights all the time!  Some are longer but they generally last 60-90 seconds and we ask if they could pull over to get their number and learn more/set up appt.  We got 6 new investigators last week!!!!

Everything here is so great!  I love it!  I love this gospel, it truly brings peace and happiness :)

LOVE YOU ALL FOREVER,

2014-01-14 Dear Parents of Our Wonderful Taiwan Taichung Missionaries

From time immemorial, our mission has received missionaries on Wednesdays. So we were stunned to learn late Tuesday night that our missionaries had already arrived at the Taoyuan Airport and were quite stranded:( But like responsible, faithful servants of the Lord, they called the mission home and we arranged for them to be picked up by President Day, president of the Taiwan Taipei Mission. We want you to know they are all safe and well!

Please enjoy an update of their activities at the Taiwan Taichung Mission blog:
        http://taiwantaichungmission.blogspot.tw

We are so grateful for all you've done over the years to prepare them to serve the Lord in Taiwan, and are especially grateful for the opportunity to serve with them!

Love,

Sister Blickenstaff

2014-01-07 EAT DRINK AND BE MERRY ... FOR NEXT WEEK I DIE

Yes. That is correct.  I am going to die in the Utah Ogden Mission on the 13th.  MY VISA CAME THROUGH!  Apparently here when you leave the mission everyone says that you die, so I have my death date :(

I got called yesterday when I was making pancakes for lunch.  Sister Hadden passed me the phone and Sister Erikson from the mission office asked if I was cold enough yet, she then said that I didn't have to worry about it any longer because I was leaving for Taiwan!  Hhaha Sister Hadden was worried when I got off the phone because she said my face looked like Sister Erikson had told me that someone had died in our family or something drastic!!  So yes I am starting to sort what things I DO NOT NEED in Taiwan, like my boots, my winter coatS, and thousands of cardigans!!

Loads happened this last week.  Um.  We had our Zone monthly goal setting meeting and filled in our "Circles of Life" for each companionship.  They allow us to see where our investigators are at.  We had 1 in the "golden area" which means they are ready to be baptized EXCEPT for a few small concerns.  So we set the goal to baptize 1 person, unfortunately that fell through right after we set the goal :(  NEVER FEAR THOUGH THE HOLY GHOST IS NEAR!  The night the date fell through we got a call from a member named Brad saying his friend Wington from the Dominican Republic really wanted to meet with the missionaries.  We met him that night and he is so ready to be baptized.  He has been to institute classes at USU, he comes to church with his friends, and is SO READY!  IT WAS SO COOL!!  There was a dispute about where he lives though and we almost had to pass him over to the elders, we cover the odd numbers on his street and the elders have the even apartments.  Wington lives in an even number BUT comes to church with our ward so the Elders talked with their bishop and we get to keep him!!!  YAAY!

I MET A RETURNED SISTER MISSIONARY FROM TAIZHONG!  She came over to our house for Language Study this week and she's amazing.  Sister Watterson used to live in Taiwan because her dad was the MISSION PRESIDENT THERE, then she went there on her mission!  It was such a blessing to have her come help me because I was drowning with the 15 books they gave me at the MTC and I just had no clue where to start.  Some days I would study and learn a lot, but others I was just lost.  (Side note: I got a Chinese character PMG and a Chinese pinyin PMG and the words are not the same.  The pinyin book is correct, but the characters are wrong a lot of the time.  SEE MY CONFUSION??)  Anyway she came and said she would lend me her book, and I am learning the Restoration this week and we will go teach some members :)

ALSO SHE SAID SHE CAN HELP OUT WITH RAE!!!!!!!!!!!!!  Remember her?  She has such a strong strong testimony but her grandmother in Guangzhou won't let her be baptized???  Well.  Brother Watterson (who was the Mission President) called another Chinese Girl's parents that wouldn't allow her to be baptized so we are going to talk to Rae about that!

OH AND I WENT TO THE CHINESE BRAANCH!! The reason it has taken a whole month for me to get there is because another companionship has that Branch.  They don't speak any Chinese though.  They didn't want me to come into the branch because it was their area.  But I talked with President Heirs about what I should be doing and how to go about doing it, and then I magically got a text inviting me to Sacrament meeting haha!  The branch has a total of .... 5 people!!  And 3 kids :)  Everything was in Chinese, but everyone also could speak English.  So there was some Chinglish here and there!  What was so cool was that I could understand most everything, some grammar things I was surprised at but when I didn't know I would just ask and they would help out!!  There were like 7 or 8 people who couldn't speak any Chinese so they all had the 5 people who could translate for them.  Each time someone got up to bear their testimony there were 5 other people talking and translating haha :)

What really touched my heart was that I was told the people in this branch have been praying so long for a Chinese speaking missionary.  That's why I've been here.  I have been able to be an answer to their prayers :)  THEY WERE ALL SO NICE!  And I have 2 referrals for my mission before I even land!!

One of our investigators dropped us early in the week :(  That was really hard.  She was so close to being baptized, she just always had church on Sunday so she never came to church!  Sister Lolofie was kind of sad that I didn't cry in the lesson, I cried once we shut the door.  But she drove past us as we were all crying and sad on the sidewalk so she saw how upset we were about it.  Preach My Gospel says we need to show people that we are "DEVASTATED" when the steps to coming closer to Christ aren't taken.  I know I can do that for sure.

We also "lost" a less active but he just moved for his job.  Thanks to Facebook I still have been having minilessons with him about his scripture study (which has been more frequent than when he was meeting with us!!) and other things!  I am going to miss teaching through Facebook and sharing the gospel and love of Christ :(

New Year's Eve was fun!  We were told to be in by 6, so that meant we had Pday all day!  We found a sister to help us out with a ride for the day because we no longer can hitch a ride with our roommates the Spanish sisters.  Anyway it was way nice :) We waited to study until the hours we had at the end of the day, but it still felt like we were just sitting around!!  SO WEIRD!  The Spanish sister bought a carrot cake and some poppers that we set off around 10:20.  We party hard.  And went to bed by 10:30 hahahaha

I am loving being on my mission!  I really have grown to LOVE THE PEOPLE HERE!  I love them enough to walk blocks and blocks in freezing weather.  It hasn't snowed in forever, I think it's cause it's too cold to snow!!  I love teaching people about what makes me the happiest I've ever been, the knowledge that I have a Heavenly Father that is seriously invested in me.  He loves me and he loves everyone around me.  I am so happy I have been able to serve here in Logan.  I hope I have done what I needed to :)

Next time I write I'll be in TAIWAAN!!!

LOVE YOU ALL SO SO MUCH,

Sister King

2013-12-31 ... What Happened This Week?

CHRISTMAS HAPPENED!

Wow Christmas on your mission is a super special thing!  I am so grateful that I got to talk with and see you all! :) I took a screenshot of you all and it's one of my favorite things to have on my iPad!!

So Christmas Day we had a last minute dinner with Bishop Weiss.  Him and his family were preparing for caroling but we for
got to plan our dinners because LITERALLY EVERYONE was asking if we could come to theirs.  Anyway, cool story, Bishop Weiss' daughter served in Taizhong!  So we talked for a bit in Mandarin and that was way great.  She loves to ride horses (what?) and to rock climb (what what?!) it was really nice getting to meet her.  I am trying to plan out my Language Study because a few sisters here in Logan have offered to help me during my study to practice teaching in Mandarin and vocab and for them to remember haha!!

On Christmas Day we were GOING to go sledding with the Zone, but a member called us and asked us to come to a lunch she was having.  She served a mission but she had a friend that she wasn't sure how interested he was in the Church, but she kept having a prompting to talk to him about it.  So she set up this lunch for people who were not at home for the holiday and invited us!  Philip, her friend, is a way cool guy and he said he would like to get a little more.  Unfortunately he's not in our area, he lives in an even house and our area covers the odd houses on his street!!  But we passed him along to the Elders so that's great!

AND WE WENT CAROLING!  We went twice and were able to carol to one of the girls we work with.
She and her family loved it :)  All of our missionaries sat in the back of a trailer and a member drove us around.  We were all SO COLD but it was way fun!!

Christmas Day we called home :) and then went to work!  We had a lunch with Bishop Loosli who is such a nice guy!  And that's what I counted for our Christmas Dinner because the missionaries in our Zone were going to all eat together at a member's house.  That fell through though haha so we went to Burger King!!!!!  YEAA!

After we started caroling at the old folk's home and that was so great.  Our companionship had gone there once before so it was really great to see some of the same people again!  Mel Smith is like the coolest guy ever, he used to fix watches and when he feels like it he goes into work and still does!  He's been in the paper and just loved to have someone remember him :)  And to get to hear some of the things he believes about the Plan and like his outlook on life was so nice.

Oh and we had a Zone FHE after our lunch!  That was fun because we all shared Christmas Memories, and then we made new ones!

Since we are working with 16 wards we wanted to meet with all of the Bishops before the new semester starts here at USU campus.  So this last week we met with 11!  We got to know them, their families, and they got to know us and how we can help them!  We wanted them to know who we are so they can feel like they

So.  Saturday happened.  And was really hard.  We were running late to everything and tried to push back the time for a lesson with Tiffany and she didn't want to push it but didn't tell us until it was too late.  Anyway we ran there (up a hill, in my boots with heels [worst idea ever]) and got there totally out of breath.  We have been meeting with Tiffany who is an investigator for a while, and this was the first time in a week.  We had stopped at her work to tell her we were thinking about her and texted her loads but she was always busy.  She dropped us.  She asked us to stop coming.  It was SO HARD!  As soon as we got out of the lesson I started to bawl.  Like I felt like I shouldn't be here, like I didn't say enough.  I didn't share my testimony enough.  Ugh it was so hard.

THEN Sister Lolofie made me direct where we should go knock on houses.  WHAT.  We knocked on 4 houses and no one was home.  So super discouraged we just started walking.  We visited the house of someone we are working with and she wasn't home but her roommate was.  We talked about what we can do better with her friend and how she could support her roommate who was starting to come back to Church (Jessi is the bomb!  I learn so much from her!!)  Anyway after we left I felt like we should go to the complex across the way but I didn't say anything so we walked past it.  I felt that "stupor of thought" and we turned back.  And turned back.  And turned around again.  I couldn't figure out if it was the Spirit or just like me thinking.  But we went anyway.  Knocked on the door.  And an Indian woman opened the door.  We found our her name was Pratima and that she was interested in hearing about prayer.  She said she prayed but not usually and she would like to.  YAY!  We got back next week because her roommate was sick!

Ugh I can't think of anything else that's happened this week, but I know I've started to notice small miracles that Heavenly Father blesses me with :)

I also learned a really good/effective approach.  Ask someone what their favorite food in the world is.  Then say, what if I had never eaten __ wouldn't you want to share it with me?  Tell me how yummy it is?  How much I will like it?  That is how I feel about this Book of Mormon, it has made my life better in so many ways.  I invite you to read it.  I know you will find it personally satisfying, because it is the word of God you will discover and feel God's love.  Here is a copy for you.

BOOOM.  But humility.

Another cool thing that happened earlier in this week.  I was really frustrated because our appointments were falling through and so were rides.  It was the day before Christmas Eve, and we were walking home after 9:30.  Home is about a 20 minute walk away and it was 5 degrees when we left the church building.  I hadn't brought a hat or gloves so I was freezing.  And as we were walking I prayed and asked Heavenly Father just please.  Just one person.  Have one of these cars that keep passing us stop.  Have one person offer us a ride.  All I need is one.  Please show me and help me.  I've been doing my best to stay positive but I am cold and sad.  Please.  We walked a block, and no one stopped.  We passed Kris' house and Brock's car pulled in.  He said I' so sorry I just dropped Maury off, I can go get her ..  We said no it's fine and kept walking.  We didn't walk more than 2 steps when another car pulled in.  It was a couple that had just gotten home from their honeymoon and they offered us a ride.  They looked really tired so we said no.  But as we walked away they got shovels out to clear all the snow that had fallen since they were gone and I turned back around and offered to help shovel.  He said no, just get home. Have a great night Sisters.  So yea, we didn't take the car ride(s) offered us, and no we couldn't do any service but I can't express to you how UPLIFTED my heart felt.  Heavenly Father gave us 2 options, not just one.  And all the rest of the walk home I was smiling and didn't feel cold.

Love you all so much,

2013-12-24 ... The Most Wonderful Time of the Year ... to be a Missionary!

I have to keep this week pretty short because we are getting picked up for a lunch meet thing with a member and her nonmember friend!  AND I GET TO CALL YOU TOMORROW!!

There are 4 USU Campus missionaries and 1 set of us Sisters.  All the other missionaries have "slowed down some" because "all their people left" but we have been as busy as ever!  Most of our investigators and less-actives have stayed in town AND we have been adding planning for the coming semester!  We are meeting with all of our Bishops this week (16) so they can know who we are and feel more comfortable talking with us about what they need :)

Wednesdays we have a Sister Missionary Scripture Study at the church building, and the last few weeks have not been successful but we texted the people we wanted to come.  Most of them didn't but people we didn't even ask came!!  We also set up appointments with some of those that did to visit them later this week.

One of the people we are visiting with, LIKE A MIRACLE TURN AROUND.  We will discuss this in our phone call but he felt the Spirit for the first time and is loving meeting with us!!

Yesterday we had a District Meeting about how to contact and find people.  Then yesterday we were walking home from a great lesson and Sister Hadden  (Sister Lolofie went on exchanges .. OH YEA I GOT A NEW COMPANION HAHA) said we should go talk to them.  I didn't want to cause how weird is that?  They were still getting out of the car, and we had passed them!  Anyway good thing we turned around.  It was a guy apartment so we couldn't go in without another sister with us, but he had read the Book of Mormon aand .......... WAS CHINESE!!  He's from Shanghai and we talked in Chinese!  We tried to visit him later because we were going to find a girl to come with us, but no one was available!  So we still walked to his house but he magically was gone. He left a note for us that he went to the hospital with his friend.  But to come back next week once he's back from New York.

SO EXCITING!

I lost my nametag :(  I still have 1 in English and I'm ordering another but that was the major trauma of this week.

We had transfers this last Wednesday and we adopted Sister Lolofie.  She's from Oklahoma!  I have already learned so much from her!!  We have a new set up for lessons, and we started looking at how we can be most effecitve to ALL OF OUR WARDS

Ugh im so sorry this week's email is so short.  But like I said it's busy time for us!!  :)

This week I have really learned that my mission is about doing all that I CAN to serve the people I'm here for.  I have had to like kind of not think about it being Christmas in the sense that I will be with my family, cause I can't.  If I think about how it's a time for everyone to be together then I'm not focusing on the Savior as much as I could be.  So instead I have been reading my scriptures so much about His birth, and why He came, and what He did for me and all of us!  It's made it really special.

And the fact that I have been able to open presents EVERY DAY THIS MONTH (!!!!!) way fun :)

I LOVE YOU ALL SO SO SO MUCH

2013-12-17 ... The Holy Ghost is the Key

Hey Everyone!  Especially my big brother!!

BEFORE ANYTHING ELSE HAPPY BIRTHDAY PUTT!! :)  Love you!!!!!!!! <3

This last week has been so much fun, loads has happened!  Today we found out at breakfast about Transfers (happening tomorrow).  I ... am ..... STAYING!  I am staying with Sister Hadden too :)  Sister Wagner went home on Sunday, her mission was over!  Both of us are getting a new trainer and companion named Sister Lolofie.  We are meeting her tomorrow, which is Transfer Day.

Generally this week was actually pretty tough.  Our appointments or rides to appointments or people that were coming with us just seemed to ALL FALL THROUGH.  Which made it hard to stay like positive and up beat, plus our companion was leaving us!  Loads of things were rescheduled for this week and so far this week has been much better :)  Last week was Finals at USU, so I understand that things were bound to fall through but yea.  It wasn't easy.

We had a REALLY COOL Family Home Evening, where we learned that since we are missionaries who carry the name of Jesus Christ on our badges we are special.  Because we are sent by him we can do things in His name, for Him.  Way cool because I never thought I would have a chance like that since I don't have the Priesthood, but remember Rae?  She's the Chinese girl we are teaching, we had a lesson with her and she told us that she really wants to be baptized here in the US so we can support her BUT that she won't do it without the approval of her Grandmother.  So I promised her that if she started reading the Book of Mormon and praying again (because she had stopped) that when she called her Grandmother, the conversation would go well and she would approve of her being baptized.

I taught my first real, in Chinese lesson this week to a man from China named Henry.  He brought his family from Beijing and has been taking the lessons from missionaries forever, he's an eternigator haha.  But that lesson went well, he understands everything and I think has a testimony in it (?) but he won't keep the Word of Wisdom around other people.  He works so he says he HAS to drink at work things, and that he HAS to drink tea with his in-laws and HAS to smoke around people bla bla bla.  It's so weird because he believes that Joseph Smith was a Prophet but doesn't want to keep the Word of Wisdom.  What's up with that??????  It was really embarrassing though, because mid-lesson my Chinese ability went out the window.  Maybe that was the Holy Ghost stopping my ability to speak, because I got a little frustrated that he wouldn't connect the two: Prophet, and Commandment.

The work is really fun here!  I never thought I would love Member Visits as much as I do!  We have the opprotunity to meet some of the coolest people.  The only thing that is hard for me is that we have 16 wards of awesome people!  I barely can meet everyone once, let alone remember!!

COOLEST THING ABOUT THIS WEEK: WE HAD A BAPTISM!!  The Sisters had been working with our Investigator Kris before I got to Logan but it was still awesome seeing someone that I taught make the decision to be baptized!  It really was beautiful, at the end he got up and bore his testimony and ugh my heart was so touched!!  He is the bomb!  What is sad is that after he made the choice to be baptized some of his friends are "unfriending him", like REALLY?  He is the funniest person ever, and he is such a nice guy!!  Kris is the best :)  He took us out to dinner Friday night before his baptism and it was so fun to be able to spend time with him!  He really is the funniest guy, I wish you all could meet him!  He only shops at Nordstrom.  And he's amazing :)

I am really liking teaching members!  Oh we ran into some people after teaching/talking with a less active and they rocked!  Dennis used to be a bishop, and the guy we met first was Lance.  Lance was working on his truck when we were walking by, and we were commenting to each other how nice the weather was because of the sun and he chimed in!  We stopped and said Hi and asked how his day was going.  Sister Hadden asked if there was anything we could do for him, he said no thanks though.

JENISE SENT AN AMAZING CHRISTMAS PACKAGE!  I love the tree thanks CAMEO :)  It looks so great in our apartment!  I was able to beg for decorations for the rest of our house and this really nice Mom from our YSA ward brought us a ton of stuff she "wasn't using" (I'm pretty sure she got it from the Dollar Store .. which makes me love it even more!!)  It is so nice to be able to come home to Christmas in our home :)  It makes the day even better.  Jenise sent an advent package, so after we plan each day I get to open a present and it's so fun!  Sometimes I'm impatient and open it in the morning and hide it so I get to 'open' it twice haha

Oh so let me explain the Christmas Program :)  On Saturday we were asked by one of the wards a companionship in our Zone covers to be the choir.  They read the story of Christ's birth and in between we sang songs that went along with what was happening.  After the choir part there was a huge party in the gym.  We had tomales and hot chocolate!  Kris came to the fireside and Rae was there too!  It was way fun to have them there and to be together as missionaries!

Keilani is just the cutest!  She is someone who went less active in the Church but realized something was missing so she got in contact with us!  And her lessons are so fun!!!  She has such a strong testimony already and what is so cool is that I can see it getting stronger in the way she is acting.  Last lesson we didn't teach what we planned but we answered some of her HUGE questions.  The Spirit was so strong in that lesson as we shared like experiences and scriptures.  I loved it!

What is so exciting is that I am in a place where I have found out which things work well and which don't.  Sister Hadden and I worked REALLY HARD on Saturday when we did Weekly Planning to prayerfully think about what things we liked about what we were doign and what thigns we didn't.  We set goals for our new way of getting stuff done, and so far (4 days) IT IS GOING SO WELL!  We are meeting and finding new people we wouldn't have before, we are looking at the things we do and making them into teaching experiences, and making it fun!!  We went looking at the millions of referrals we have but all were gone for the break, but we were actually able to make time for it (which we couldn't before).

Wow this email is pretty broad, but I am loving being a missionary.  My testimony is like gigantic now and it is amazing how close I feel to the Holy Ghost.  Like there are times when we are doing something that could be better, and I can feel it leave partially and I know that's when we HAVE TO CHANGE!  I really love my companion, she is making me a much better missionary!  The Atonement makes such a strong impact on people's lives, it is such a blessing to be able to witness that here on my mission!

Facebook is used only for Missionary work.  So please tell all of our relatives that I can NOT casually hangout and chat.  I'd love to!! Hello I miss my family like crazy, but I really do need your help to keep that temptation away.  I want you to post pictures though!! No one sends me any :(  So I am going through withdrawals and forgetting your beautiful faces!!

2013-12-11 ... Week 3 and Freezing

It has been such a cold cold and BUSY week!!  Snow everywhere, all the time!  The first few days were BRUTAL because I only had my rubber rain boots for the snow .. and those just soaked up the cold instantly and were so bad for trying to stay warm.  THANKFULLY my awesome companion Sister Hadden has friends in the area that donated a pair of boots to me.  Yes they have a heel, but at least I am not freezing anymore!  Trick I also learned is to wear the thick red socks Jenise, Cameo, and I bought and wearing those under my boots :)

So crazy week this week!  I have met so many people and I love it!  The day after Pday we visited with 9 people!  One of whom is from GUANGZHOU!  Her name is Rae, and she is really ready to be baptized but her grandma won't allow her to.  So we are continuing to meet with her and build up her testimony!!  Lots of prayers for her :)

Another person who is crazy awesome is Moroni!  I learned so much from him, he's basically a scripture-torian who connected stories and parables and such that I never would have put together.  He was less active but he has been coming back to Church and is super strong!  I loved visiting with him and teaching him because he really was teaching mee!

Ugh I can't even tell you all of the AMAZING STORIES I have coming out of lessons this week.  So many wonderful spiritual experiences and just like I know it's true.  Miracles have happened this week!

Like yesterday.  On Mondays we aren't allowed to go out talking to people at night, because of FHE.  So we have our own!  A family invites all of us over and we have a spiritual thought and play a game all together!  I had been really down that day, all of the appointments I could go to were cancelled. I had planned to go on splits and go Christmas caroling with the Sisters in our apartment, but we had a last minute meeting for missionaries on USU Campus (me).  At the time of the meeting, should have been 7 but they pushed it back an hour ugh, we had a lesson.  So I missed that.  Then there was a meeting after that we missed because our ride didn't pick us up.  Thankfully the other companion that had taught the previous lesson taught it with another RM.  SO NOT A GOOD DAY RIGHT?  And I was missing home.  The house of the family was so cute and covered in Christmas lights and ours has nothing.  But what was amazing was that one of the Elders said something that struck a cord in my heart, like it was what I needed to hear.  And I wasn't even hoping for someone to say what he did, it was exactly what my Father in Heaven knew I needed to hear to be positive and end the day on the right note :)  I don't know if that made any sense but IT WAS A MIRACLEEE

Another was today, someone dropped off Christmas Decorations to our apartment!  I am so excited to go back home and make it all cute for the season!! I'll make sure to send pictures!

Speaking of Christmas Spirit ... we had a Mission Christmas Party!  Which was way fun.  Good talks, great food, a TALENT SHOW!!  Our Zone had prepared a Fijian dance.  It was for sure the best talent, by far.  But humility really, we were okay hahaha :)  What was super cool though was I met a man named Brother Benedict, who is the actor in Ephraim's Rescue.  He is such a great man, I was lucky enough to catch him and get a picture (or 12) and talk with him before EVERYONE wanted to.  We watched the movie again which is an amazing amazing movie you all have to watch it!

Anyway I love teaching to real people!  Being able to feel the Holy Ghost and OH MY! In the store the other day a cute cute lady stopped me and told me that there was something different about the way I was acting (waiting in line??) and she said that I have a special light that she doesn't see very often.  She noticed my tag and gave me a hug so excited to see I was a missionary!

And the week before a lady PAID FOR OUR GROCERIES!  And today after our Temple Trip (which was aaamazing) someone put $100 down for our meal at Angie's!!  I'm not sure if it's just Utah or the Christmas Spirit but people are really genuinely nice here!  We have been fed almost every night!  We had a dinner with Bishop/Brother (I don't remember which .. sorry) Draxler who knows the Andersons and Chens from HK!  Crazy cool!  Also question, is there any way that I could be related to a Bishop King here in Logan?  Everyone thinks I'm his daughter because we have the same facial features and he served in Taizhong ............... ??

Sundays are crazy busy.  We cover 2 YSA stakes, thats 16 wards.  So we go to a lot of meetings on Sundays.  But my favorite (other than the Sacrament duuuh) was our Correlation Meetings with our Ward Mission Leaders.  We got so many referrals!

So life is crazy.  And amazing.  Is it weird that those two things can coincide so well?  I have grown to love my companions, it was kind of harder at first because they both have personalities that are SO DIFFERENT than mine.  But we worked it out :)  This is such a lame email full of general things that happened but I can't go through all the stuff in the time I have I'm really sorry!  I love you all so so much :)

2013-12-03 My First Transfer ... My First Real Lesson

Wow.  Okay so I'm sorry I haven't had like any time to write anything about anything forever.  When we changed Branches in the MTC on the 27th we lost our Friday P’day.  My new P’Day was set for Monday but that turned out to be the day I left for my reassignment in Ogden!

So that Saturday I got my awesome package from Jenise that was my Greenie package (thank you so so much!)  And we had a super great lesson with Sydney, my companions and I totally changed the way we were teaching and she felt the Spirit very strongly :) HOORAY But we forgot to invite her to baptism (ugh) but that was okay because we started the next lesson off bringing that same spirit back and she totally wants to be baptized!  [This is our teacher roleplaying her investigator from her mission]

The TRC (Teaching Resource Center  ... I asked the name ha ha) is so great!  We taught Sydney twice as a progressing investigator, then we had a less-active teaching experience then a referral experience.  That was really cool because each of my companions and I connected well with each different appointment.  Some people come volunteer, but our referral appointment was for sure legit non-members.

OH and I got my first referral!  There were Sisters on the floor above us that all speak Chinese and are from China or Taiwan. Anyway one of the Sisters' families are not active and she asked us to go see them!! EXCITING!

I found Sister Nightingale's friend at the Clinic!!  She gave me such a big big hug :)  It was way awesome!!

I had to say goodbye to one of my companions on Tuesday :(  Sister Bayart went to Salt Lake City East Mission!  She is already a great missionary and I know she will like never stop!

The MTC in Chinese was a total different place than the MTC in English.  In English it was centered on the Spiritual lessons and figuring out how to teach.  In Chinese the Elders in our District (we came into a group of all Elders) had more time to learn all the ways to teach but needed to stress the language.  We taught our first lesson in Chinese and I cried after.  It went not well.  We tried really hard, just connecting how to teach and my Chinese didn't happen.  UGH.  It got better with practice but it still is a struggle!

Ha ha so with switching Branches we were supposed to switch rooms.  Again.  So the night before we started in the new Branch/class we packed up and brought all of our bags across campus to my old dorm (because I had stayed there at the beginning right?) and our swipe cards weren't working.  A guard let us into the building, but then we couldn't get up the elevator [we were struck for like 30 min] and the stairs were locked by card too!!  So we had to turn around and take ALL OF OUR STUFF BACK AGAIN and unpack at least our sheets and shower stuff.  The next day we had an escort to help with our cards.  THEY NEVER WORK THE FIRST TIME.  Sister Finlayson and I figured out if you swipe like 20 times really fast it works.

THANKSGIVING WAS SUCH A COOL EXPERIENCE! We had a morning devotional by Elder Nelson (THE APOSTLE) and his wife!  That was so so cool!  The meeting was broadcast to all of the MTCs around the world!  Then we had a meeting where 1 group left to do service and 1 had a meeting in the gym.  I had the service first.  My group packed at least 290 meals for families.  They wouldn't give us more boxes!  The goal was 9 boxes and we filled 10 with time to spare.  So we kept making bags and put them in other people's boxes!!  Then at the meeting we had a "demonstration" of what Thanksgiving is and why we have it.  There were groups of missionaries that were puritan men, puritan women, a minister, Indian women, Indian men, and turkeys.  They all had noises/actions to do when the Sister that was reading the story said their name.  I took a little video so you can see what I mean!  That night we all watched Ephraim’s Rescue, which was a really good movie!  And it's a real story so, wow.  Go watch it.  I loved toward the end (don't worry I'm not giving anything away by saying this) how they asked, "Do you have the strength to lift as you have been lifted?"  I think that's kind of my goal out on my mission.  I wanted to come and grow to have the strength to help others feel the way I do about the Gospel.

Our District's assignment for service was to help in the Cafeteria.  Which was way more fun than bathrooms.  We moved boxes into storage when they were delivered and passed them down a chute.  We also put things into huge fridges and then swept all around.  We also sanitized the tables.  It was just better because we got to all work together and laugh and have fun!  Bathrooms are quite serious.  I guess.

TALL is the name of the computer program that helps you with your language, and it is super effective!!  The Elders in my District have Chinese that is so good!  It sounds like they have been studying for about 2 years, and they have been at the MTC for 4 weeks!!  Their pronunciation is a little funny (but that's totally okay because they can teach lessons better than I CAN!)

Ugh I have been out of the MTC 1 day and I miss it!

Fast Sunday was odd.  Sister Finlayson and I went to Sacrament Meeting for both our Branches and that was really nice.  We bore our testimonies in both English and Chinese!  haha.  We had a Mission Conference which was 2 hours long, then met our new Branch Presidency for the Chinese Branch.  They were interesting.  The counselors both served missions in Taiwan (!) but the President did not speak Chinese.  During Testimony meeting they were translating for him ha ha ha :)  Sister Finlayson and I ate early (4:00) because we went to Departure Devotional :(  Then we had Devotional where we talked about how important it is to use the MEMBERS in converting.  Which was cool.  I hadn't thought about it.

My District and I watched the Testament in Chinese.  They didn't get anything but I did my best to translate what was going on... could anyone explain what that movie is even about?!  I was sooo confused!

THEN I HAD TO GET READY TO GO :(   I said see ya to the Elders and then finished packing my room :( :(  Sister Finlayson is amazing.  Just like ugh she really is!  I was super nervous about leaving but she helped me finish getting ready and is an angel.

I was supposed to leave at 6 but at 5 they paged the apartment and said they were waiting for me.  So I really just threw all my things into my bags and dragged them across campus to get on the van taking me and 2 other missionaries to the train!!  I didn't have time to take a picture with my Sister Finlayson!!!

We missed the 5:50 train (oops) but we got on the one that left at like 6:10 and I got to call Mom :)  She was so confused because I kept saying that "My name is Sister King." and she kept saying, "No my name is Sister King.  Who is this????"

The train took a long time, but a man stopped to help [us with our bags and we found out he served in Taiwan Taipei!  So cool!  I traveled with Sister Hala'api'api from Hawaii and an Elder from Missouri that I can't remember his name.  2 Senior Elders were waiting for us at the station in Ogden and took us all to the Mission Office where we met the Mission President, his wife, and a bunch of other people.

WE GET IPADS AND ARE FACEBOOK MISSIONARIES!

My new companions are Sister Wagner and Sister Hadden.  I JUST CAN'T STOP HAVING THESE 3 PERSON COMPANIONSHIPS!

Well I didn't mean to send it so fast!

Anyway my Companions are great!  Super kind and super helpful!  We are in a tiny apartment with another companionship.  And yes, just 1 bathroom.  After emailing today we are going to go to Walmart to pick up some food that I like (YAY POPTARTS) Sister Wagner goes home in 2 weeks so she is like super used to Missionary life.  Sister Hadden reported to the field the day I got into the MTC... so about 2 weeks!

Last night I taught my first real person lesson!  It went well, I didn't say much but I will get there :)  Today we have 4 appointments (WHAT ON PDAY? yea we never stop) so I know I will get lots of chances to help out more in lessons!  We also had a member feed us dinner.  And another member fed us for lunch.  I asked if we should ask for a referral from her before we left, and they said no.  But I felt like I should and she said she did have some at home and would email us.  BOOM

My Mission President is really awesome.  When we had our interview he told me what area I'd be serving .............................. LOGAN! There is a Chinese Branch up here and my companions already have an appointment for tomorrow with someone from Mainland China!!  I am so excited!

Oh and we are having a Missionary Christmas Party Friday.  And our Zone is getting ready for the talent show ... you are going to love the video.

It snowed last night.  Like not a lot, but it stuck on the ground.

Love you all loads and loads,
Sister King
